Paul's work is a celebration of moods and colours which epitomize the moors and dales. He sees painting as primarily an emotional experience for the artist and the onlooker, through a recognition that all landscapes have a particular charge.

In his work Paul tries to identify and convey this energy, forumlating a sense of place and the essence of his emotional response to it. He uses a juxtaposition of colour relationships to intensify the experience, usually working in oils, arcyllics or pastel from drawings executed on site.
